Mark O’Flaherty (MOF)
Founder
Mark (aka MOF) was highly successful as an IT business analyst, project manager, sales professional and sales director across a 25 year span in Defence, Objective Corporation, IBM and Symantec.
In 2002, MOF designed a property model to retire young. He achieved his goal a dozen years later by engaging quality people to help deliver residential and commercial property purchases as well as single lot, townhouse subdivision developments.
Retiring gave financial freedom but hasn’t meant that MOF puts his feet up. He runs a private mentoring business, provides governance and contract management for a successful award-winning Indigenous IT business, and manages his family’s private lending interests.
The private lending portfolio generates a healthy 29% internal rate of return, although the family’s concern was the unreliable timing of the returns. MOF’s continued search for profitability and reliability, built on a foundation of good governance, led to Bluebirders being established with Mark McEwen. MOF is a Partner and the Co-Founder of Bluebirders.
Generosity by design has been part of all financial models that MOF has built since his retire-young plan, and it is baked into the Bluebirders ethos. Bluebirders specifically sets aside 10% of all revenue for philanthropic programs. MOF believes that it is a privilege to be good at generating money and he will use his share to continue supporting people who are less fortunate or who are systematically disadvantaged. MOF entrusts the excellence, care and effectiveness of programs delivered by Zephyr Education, The Smith Family – Learning for life program and OrangeSky.
He and his wife, Lynelle, have been married 28 years and have raised two wonderful young adults.
